MoreHeather is a board-certified music therapist who is passionate about helping people find their voice through music. Using the VOICSS® model, Heather hopes to foster communication, independence and self-advocacy in clients.
Heather grew up in Orlando, Florida. She attended Florida Gulf Coast University for her Bachelor of Music Therapy and completed her internship in West Palm Beach at Trustbridge Hospice. After completing her Neurologic Music Therapy certification and doing virtual sessions with Central Florida Community Arts during the pandemic, Heather decided to pursue a master’s degree in music therapy at Ohio University.
During her master’s degree, Heather enjoyed working with the local school for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities both as a music therapist and a summer camp counselor. In these roles, she primarily addressed social, emotional, cognitive, and communication goals. At Ohio University, Heather also supervised student music therapists and studied Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) to get a deeper understanding of these methods of communication. Outside of music therapy sessions, Heather enjoys baking cookies or painting the ocean.
Heather also used to be a barista at Starbucks, which fostered a strong love of coffee!
