EmJ (pronounced MJ) joined Voices Together in August 2024 in the Western Region. EmJ uses an eclectic approach to music therapy to adapt each session to the needs of the people supported.
EmJ is from Western North Carolina and attended Appalachian State University while pursuing a degree in music therapy.
EmJ has worked as a direct support professional (DSP) to individuals diagnosed with intellectual and developmental disabilities since 2020, with time spent in both North Carolina and with Opportunities for Growth in Lafayette, Indiana. This experience has provided EmJ with the unique perspective of being involved with a person's life outside of music therapy.
While completing a successful music therapy internship with Opportunities for Positive Growth in Lafayette, Indiana, EmJ worked with people of all ages but was especially drawn to teenagers and emerging adults.
As a provider, EmJ hopes to use the VOICSS model to provide support in autonomy, self advocacy, and authenticity.
Fun Fact:
EmJ enjoys rock climbing both indoors and outdoors and is top-rope belay certified! EmJ hopes to learn lead climbing next.
