Voices Together

Abby lives in Asheville, N.C. and is a music therapist who prioritizes autonomy, empowerment, compassion, and creativity within each individual’s lives that she works alongside. She received a master’s degree in music therapy and a graduate certificate in expressive arts therapy from Appalachian State University in 2023. Throughout graduate school Abby specialized in music therapy and mental health, and researched ways in which feminist music therapy can be applicable within psychiatric settings. These interests led her to complete her music therapy internship at Broughton State Hospital in Morganton, N.C. and go on to work as a music therapist at Mission Hospital’s acute, inpatient behavioral health units in Asheville, N.C. for several years.

While working with individuals across the lifespan, Abby found a passion for working with the adolescent unit and finds the benefits of music therapy groups with this age range particularly enriching. As the Western Clinical Supervisor, she aims to provide support through the use of the VOICSS® model in order to encourage individualism, well-being, increased social and emotional skills, and increased self-esteem.

Fun Fact:

Abby is currently an Advanced Trainee in GIM (Guided Imagery and Music) and loves singing and listening to jazz in her free time!
