Voices Together

Michaela is a board-certified music therapist and certified child life specialist. Michaela was born and raised in Florida and completed their bachelor's degree in music therapy with a minor in psychology and a certificate in developmental disabilities from Florida State University.  She moved to Wilmington, NC to complete her music therapy and child life internship at Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center. After completing their internship, they began working as a music therapist and child life specialist for adult patients and their families at Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center before joining Voices Together in November 2023 as a music therapist in the Eastern Region. In April 2026, she was promoted to Internship Program Supervisor and relocated to the Triangle Region.

Michaela's therapeutic philosophy is that every person we encounter has something they can teach us. They believe that the role of a therapist is to give clients choice and autonomy to help them grow into the most authentic versions of themselves. Her clinical practice is rooted in person-centered, trauma-informed care with a focus on social justice and the impacts of systemic oppression on clients in and out of the therapy space.

As an internship supervisor, they are passionate about working with students to help them grow into clinicians that will have a positive impact on the field of music therapy and the clients they work with. Michaela strives to tailor the internship experience to the unique strengths and needs of each intern that joins Voices Together.

Outside of music therapy, Michaela can be found spending time with her husband, Kyle, their daughter, Charlotte, and their dog, Raja.
